THE HOT HIPPIE (Part Two) – Beauty and Skin Care that Doesn’t Cost the Earth

il_340x270.765564185_8m9cWell thank you, darling readers, for your love, support and endorsement of BTM’s most recent post. I think it’s so incredible (and really showcases the paradigm shift) when so many people stand up and acknowledge that there has to be a better, kinder way of doing things – even if it does ruffle some big business feathers and goes against the grain. High fives all round you amazing humans you! I was inundated with messages, facebook shares, texts and ‘likes’ from women who were so excited to learn about the products available that might better align with their personal ethos and values. PLUS a few women shared their own favourites and recommendations … and this is what makes my heart aflutter. Community, connection and collaboration. Sisterhood for the win.

Today’s post is a continuation of yesterdays’ and picks up where we left off. So, without further ado, I bring you part dues of the Hot Hippie series.

MORE SKIN CARE …

Ok I forgot to mention yesterday a few products that I use when my skin could do with just a little more love. You know, those nights where you get in your jammies early, brew a cup of tea and get ready to (binge) watch a trashy TV series and you want to rock some SERIOUS skin love. Cue coffee scrubs and face masks. My go to indulgence.

I wrote an extensive post a while back on Coffee Scrubs (their benefits, how to DIY and more …) so have a click and a read to find out more. I wholeheartedly endorse these badboys!

BTM Recommends – Freya’s coffee scrubs; Tinderbox face mask; Caffeine eye cream (for dark circles and general magic making).

LIP CARE

“These lips were made for kissing, that’s just what they’ll do, one of these days these lips are going to kiss the shiz out of you” – pretty accurate lyrics right? I grew up on LipSmackers (remember how COOL these bad boys were!) and, while cute, balms and glosses often contain a truck load of nasty additives (alcohol that dries out your lips; menthol, artificial colours and flavours that can cause irritation … ). I was gifted a few lipglosses//balms for Christmas a few years and have never ever stopped using them. I opt for a tinted one for my nights out and a neutral one (coffee is mah fave!) for everyday wear – they are amazing.

BTM Recommends – Hurraw! Balms

PERFUME

I have always loved having a signature scent. That, on pure fragrance alone, someone can recognise and associate you. Growing up, my scent was probably Marc Jacobs’ Daisy or Calvin Kline’s IN2U. But since metaphorically and literally cleaning out my closet, these very synthetic and chemically concoctions don’t sit as fly with me as they once did. So guess who had the opportunity to reinvent her scent? This guy.

My favourite scent, as of late, has come to serve a dual purpose. Firstly – I smell like heaven, and the boys come running. And secondly – the aromotherapeutic benefits are unbelievable. I’m new to the essential oil craze and, as I mention more specifically later in this post, am a complete convert. The past 6 months have been tumultuous and have left me, at times, feeling absolutely deflated. My beautiful friend and Doterra consultant, recently made me up a ‘special potion’ using oils chosen to uplift, elevate and invoke more positive energy. Check out her sites here and here, to learn more and pick her expert brain. My perfume blend has a base of coconut oil and drops of orange, geranium, elevation blend and a balance blend. It is heavenly.

BTM Recommends – Tinderbox Blossom Spray; DIY blends courtesy of Doterra.

HAIR CARE

My hair is a beast. It’s long (we officially hit ‘ass length’ this Summer), it’s naturally dry and frizzy, it’s thick and, when it’s behaving, it’s my greatest love. When I treat it well, with beautiful products and semi regular salon appointments (HA!), it’s beautiful. I haven’t dyed my hair in about three/four years … coinciding with the time of my life that I became aware of the sensitivities of my skin and body, and all of the nasties that I was exposing myself to on a regular basis, unawares of their potential impact on my health and wellbeing!

BTM Recommends – NAK haircare range (for the lady with the higher budget, these products are sulphate and paraben free); Nature’s Organics (for lower budget but brilliant results, available at IGA).

PHARMACEUTICAL TREATMENTS

I’m not one to take drugs (recreational or otherwise) unless shit gets really bad. For a mild headache, or dull period pain, I would rather just soldier on and trust that I will, soon enough, be feeling better. But during those times when my abdomen feels like it is ON FIRE and that my uterus is planning it’s violent escape from my body … I need help. I used to pop a few Ibuprofen or Nurofen to get me through but that was until I was gifted an amazing essential oil blend, ClaryCalm, for my 27th birthday. This baby is phenomenal and really has to be tested to be believed. I use it on my wrists and on my abdomen on the day or two prior and first few days of my cycle and it’s like magic. No pain, minimal hormonal symptoms (crazy bitch mode stays at bay), fewer breakouts … try it. Seriously.

BTM RecommendsClaryCalm by Doterra.

Blessings and au naturale kisses and cuddles x
