IT’S NOT EASY BEING GREEN (BUT IT’S STILL TOTES DOABLE)

I don’t know about you, but when life gets a little hectic and areas of my life demand a little more attention – things slip. I drop the ball. As of late that’s been on something that, in the past, has been an absolute non negotiable. Low impact living and environmental//ethical consumption. Look, I’m not burning fossil fuels in my backyard, nor am I outright littering on the streets – but I have definitely dropped the standard on my low impact lifestyle. So I’m staging a revamp and would love for people to join me. We got this.

1. Single Use Coffee Cups

I forget to pack my reusable cup. Or forget to wash it. Or just get lazy. Either way – this is a biggen. For almost four months I didn’t use one single use take away cup. In the past few weeks – I have bought about 5 take away coffees and only once used my own cup. Bad Emily. So my pledge is to, for one whole month, go completely cold turkey on take away coffees UNLESS I have my cup with me.

2. Find Three

When running//walking outdoors, I often see littered sidewalks and beaches and paths. I get full blown Hulk-rage angry and channel that into my workout. Only about 1 time out of 5 will I pick it up and be the bigger human. Berm berm. Changing that right now. Pledge number two is to pick up at least 3 pieces of rubbish on my regular trail track. Bonus points if I pick up more. Note to self – pack hand sanitiser …

3. Plastic Packaging

I blame the big supermarkets for this one – why can’t they sell tomato medleys WITHOUT the plastic container and instead in a funky fresh (recyclable) paper bag!? Ok – not entirely their fault – I, as a consumer, have an incredible power in where my dollar goes. I’ve fallen into the trap recently of convenience, namely pre packaged produce. Bagged kale, boxed tomatoes, packaged herbs. Uh uh. Pledge number three is to opt for produce that serves as its OWN packaging and to make the most of my own reusable produce bags. Which leads me to number 4.

4. Grow my own Food

I happen to have recently moved in to the most epic little house. Gorgeous spacious interiors, my own nook infused with hella good energy, awesome furnishings and … a flourishing and nutrient rich vege patch. But, it was recently cleared out for change of season and I haven’t yet stocked this bad boy with all the epic goodness that it so greatly deserves! Growing your own produce is a) environmentally kick ass and no waste living; b) uber fulfilling and c) the way of the future. I’m actually going to go ahead and say d) mother flippin’ delicious. Ain’t nothing better than a home grown bunch of kale. So, fourth and final pledge, to get my hoe extra dirty and get out in the garden.

Four little actions that will make a big difference. What small changes could you implement that contribute to a happier you; a shinier planet and a brighter future?

Blessings and green green vibes x
