My ideal intimate night in with RB would be more along the lines of candlelight, meditation cushions decoratively covering the floor, passionately discussing how we plan to change the world over a glass of vino (and, if I’m being completely honest, the night would also include a predetermined safe word) … but alas I will take what I can get when it comes to this man. My ‘intimate’ evening was shared, in fact, with over 5000 of his similarly adoring fans at Perth Arena on Tuesday night.

I have followed Rusty’s career with both burning loins and passionate intrigue. Since first laying eyes on him (tall, dark features, long hair, beard … all the makings of an Emily crush) years ago during the height of his career in film and television, I was in lust. Then when he started to share his somewhat controversial political, economic, social and spiritual views, lust turned to love. I followed his YouTube channel (The Trews) regularly checking in on what RB’s take on all things ‘news’ was, I devoured his incredible book (Revolution) in three days and binge listened to his recorded readings, I followed him on social media and through him a like or two whenever he shared something that truly resonated with me*.

* And was sure that he would soon realise that the 1000th liker ‘@mlemar’ was actually the woman of his dreams.

Russ took a leave of absence from all things social media and the greater media in general mid 2015 – focussing instead on his personal development, spiritual growth and connectivity with others around him. Then he announced the Trew World Order – with no real specific details given around what the shows would offer. Russ just described it in very true-to-his-style lyrical, poetic whimsy with far too many adjectives and words like ‘consciousness’ and ‘ global movement’. I have no idea what to expect, right up until the lights dimmed and my man emerged.

His show was funny (which was always a given I guess, but I thought his recent months of social withdrawal may have meant that he opted for a super serious, preachy like event), thought provoking, inspiring, accessible, intelligent, crass and political (/ly incorrect). It was just him, candid Russell, sharing his unique blend of humour, filth and passion with his transfixed audience.

Here’s what I learned and here’s what I took away –

+ He is so unapologetically himself. He is spiritual – but still plays up to his London smutness. He is intelligent – but dips into dick jokes. He is kind – but is still working on releasing judgement and prejudice. He is funny – and isn’t afraid to use very un PC jokes to get a laugh. He is completely narcissistic but I believe he is trying to find his place somewhere between crazy celebrity, passionate advocate and pensive yogi.

+ He is delivering a pretty fucking powerful message that is begging to be heard//said//spread. The current political, environmental and social systems that we employ locally and globally just are not working … change is necessary and inevitable.

+ He gets that we are all connected. And I love that.

+ He believes in the rise of feminine power and believes that women rising into their divine feminine energy, and encouraging men to do the same, will be what saves our planet. (Which – serendipitously I have heard A LOT about as of late).

+ He doesn’t pretend to have the absolute solution – but knows that there is power and potential in the masses. He continues to speak about the incredible changes that can be implemented by a group of likeminded people.

+ He loves sex and being cheeky. And I love him all the more for that.

+ He makes fun of himself – which is something we could all benefit from doing a little more.

+ He is a freakin’ spunk. Seriously, he oozes sexual charisma, charm and smut. The perfect blend of man candy.

+ He is the perfect example of someone who is lit up and is operating from their highest and most aligned self. He shares his light (his truth//his authentic self’//his essence) completely unfiltered. He is following his path wherever it organically leads him, and he is doing so to honour his soul purpose. Awesome.
