Today’s Inspiring Soul is the most beautiful breath of fresh air and an absolute lover of life. Lola Berry is one of Australia’s leading nutritionists, a recently qualified yoga instructor, a health blogger, a presenter and a self confessed health and nature nerd. This girl is so unapologetically herself that it’s just so dang contagious and she is in fact one of my greatest sources of inspiration in fostering self love and acceptance. She is delightful. And I just know that you will adore her. So brew a fresh chai and enjoy this week’s incredible and inspiring soul – Lola Berry.
1. Describe your lifestyle approach in three words.
To simply “be the best that I can be” in all areas of my life.
2. How did you gain your ‘health nut’ status?
Hmm… I guess that one’s something I almost coined myself, I am so proud of being a health nerd! Haha. I’ve filmed whacky segments all over the world – have even been dumpster diving in New York and eaten from one, filmed with food heroes in London at the Borough markets so I guess you could say I’ve always been a bit of a health food nerd.
My mum even says that as a kiddlet when she’s take me to parties I would be the last one sitting eating at the table and not be interested in the party games, just the food!
3. What is the most over used ingredient in your kitchen?
Coconut oil and chillies – I use them both in nearly any dish and believe it or not you can get away with both in sweet and savoury creations!
4. What have been the greatest challenges for you in your quest for health/wellness/peace of mind?
Opening up and having honest conversations with myself when I’m not being real. I’ve worked in TV for 9 years now and there was a point where I was in it for the wrong reasons so realizing that was a tipping point for me, and I took myself out of the environment and just did some serious work on myself an my values. Now authenticity is something I value above more things in myself and the people I spend most of my time with, life’s too short for anything less.
5. Who are your greatest influences and inspirations?
Steve Irwin; he’s amazing, his passion and enthusiasm for wildlife conservation changed the way the world viewed and respected wildlife. It’s his energy that’s magical.
– The other is my dad, he’s always supported me but also pushed me. He has encouraged me to really focus on kicking my goals. Don’t get me wrong we drive each other nuts sometimes – our personalities clash quite a bit – but he’s like the quiet hero in my life and I’ll always be so grateful for everything he has done for me. I feel really blessed that he’s my dad.
6. What has been your most radical change?
Yoga has been a big one for me, it is the best gift that I can give myself and on top of that because I teach it too – it is a gift that I can share. That said I feel like I’m going through changes all the time and learning so much about myself, feels like a pretty ace journey to be on.
7. Recipe for success?
These are honestly the things that I need to work on the most – but when I do everything seems to fall into place and that is simply honouring myself. This might mean
+ Taking time out
+ Putting myself first
+ Saying no and not feeling guilty about it but instead feeling empowered.
+ Getting out into nature
+ Smiling
+ Dreaming
+ Writing
+ Swimming in the ocean
All these actions are little gifts that I can give back to myself.

8. Describe your perfect day.
To simply be living my dream; to do anything I love; Yoga; Nature; to live from my heart and to inspire people to live this same way in any way that I can!
9. What are your words to live by?
“Dream so big it scares you” & “When you come from the heart, anything you create from that space is limitless”.
10. What is something (an issue or concept or campaign) that is on your mind at the moment?
I love that mental health issues are getting more exposure, so I’m involved with a charity called One Wave is All it Takes and these guys go out surfing in fluro every Friday to raise awareness for all mental health issues – I think that’s pretty ace!
